Finding work for the mature adult

This very useful book helps people looking for work to adopt useful up to date techniques. I mention up to date advisedly: as Mike Macartney explains, much has changed over the last decade or so. His central contribution and very sensible it is too, is using PSR (listing examples of your previous problems, solutions and results). This is core to everything else. If you like, this technique mentally prepares you as well as providing instant materials for any and all situations.
In addition, he discusses two other useful preparatory techniques. As the title indicates, the author believes that working in concert with others is invaluable. He also recommends adopting goal-setting techniques to focus your efforts.
Amongst his other contributions, the author gives you a good idea of how to use social media such as Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube. He also provides some useful contributions on the subject of interviews, telephone as well as face to face.
Although examples and discussions are made from an American perspective, the general principles may be adopted by job-seekers all over the western world.

This book is a great read for anyone in the job market. Mike Macartney provides an refreshing perspective on searching for a job and he really makes you take a 360 degree approach toward securing your next job. From effectively using social media to participating on success teams, Mike leaves no stones unturned in guiding you toward your next job.
Mike uses the Problem, Solution, Result (PSR) method as a foundation for developing your resume. He then cleverly helps you assemble your personal story around the PSR's that you create. Along the way he uses strategies like mini sagas to ensure you're being succinct and precise.
The methods and strategies he uses throughout the book really make you think holistically about your job search. His engineering background is evident from the detailed charts that he provides, but his writing style is non-technical and very casual.
As someone who has conducted many interviews and hired many employees, I can tell you that if you apply the methods given by Mike Macartney in his book, you will be well prepared for any interview.
