Somewhere within this turgid set of street-lingo interviews with L.A. gang members are some interesting anecdotes and words of wisdom: about the importance of decolonizing black minds, of getting out of the "circle" that contains even the likes of Bill Cosby; about using excellence to combat racism; about the importance of black self-help; about how alcohol may be more dangerous than other drugs; about the love and camaraderie that balances more negative gang experiences. But the authors, a husband-and-wife team of independent rap producers, seem to have turned on the tape recorder without providing sufficient context for their tales (e.g., we're not given enough information on the oft-mentioned L.A. gang truce). Nor do they challenge their subjects to explain their often loopy Afrocentrism ("I'm an African that has been kidnapped, living in America," says one). The 14 interviewees, all men, have transcended their pasts to work now for peace; would that their efforts were dignified by journalism, not stenography. Photos not seen by PW.

Out dated book good history though

Great history of gangs, everything in here is true.
Except a lot of these guys talk about coming together as black people against the oppressive white man. Total garbage. Why get together against the white man? What kind of ingorance is this?
They seem to love their gang history as well, unfortunately gangs are pretty pathetic. They are not like the mafia at all, nothing romantic with these people, they are just poor people who are drug crazed and kill each other over 5 dollar bills, or simply because of a stupid color?

An eye opening book that informs and inspires.

This book taught me more about the inner workings of gangs
than any newspaper article or magazine piece I have ever
read. Finally I have begun to grasp what is truly going on
in the hearts and minds of gang members. It is a mind opening
book and I encourage all people to read it especially educators.

Uprising...

This book promises much and delivers so little. The stories told by some very notable names are all to often filled with fabrication aimed at building up their street legend or neighborhood. Most prominently the account of the crips as told by Jimel Barnes falls into this category. Big Jimel weaves a tale which is so transparently false that it left me wondering if the man was suffering from signs of dementia. In retrospect I suspect it is merely an advanced case of meglomania.

The remainder of the book brings little to the table in terms of substance and meaningful anserws to the problems facing the mutltitude of young men engaged in senseless acts of violence against their own. If you are a thrill seeker or gang groupy looking for alittle direction how real L.A. gang members act and dress then this one is for you. For those seeking true depth and anserws, unfortunately you won't find them here.

What a romantic story!!!!

This is a fantastic book!! I absolutely loved everything about it! Sabrina is such a strong woman who has been hurt physically and emotionally causing her to suffer from amnesia. Her loving husband, Raoul, finds her after 10 years and helps her remember her attacker and her love for her husband which includes her submission. This has a very detailed plot with suspense, betrayal, love, romance, sex and some BDSM. Wonderfully written with some length makes this a must read!!

This book has so much to offer. mystery, romance, spanking, hot ,hot, hot. It contains one scene I did not like, f/f, just skipped that. Everything else was very well done. Ten years, positive, that was a long time for him to miss and love and still search for Sabrina. And, strong, independent Sabrina, finding out the hard way she was still his submissive loved wife. This book was full of discipline at every turn.

This story was well written for a novella and while a bit longer might have been nice, truly, the memory retrieval, the secrets it uncovered, and the suspenseful drama was quite well done.

I had decided who had done the deed partly but had assigned the wrong things to the wrong persons in the book until the end.
That means it was well written.

There were times when Raoule was retraining and teaching submission to Sabrina that was borderline in controlling thoughts and desires, but, never stepped over the line because there was enough communication of how much she controlled his heart and mind both when she was with him and the time she wad taken and lost.

The spanking was not too much, actually, it was very believable and appropriate to the story.

One area I couldn't read was the staff-female, touching Sabrina as control at his direction. I couldn't read more of it so I skipped the description of all but the reason he did it which was not enough for me. So if it offends you, know it is there.

Read the book but it is a bit different in concept and can be perceived as cold hearted. I prefer psychologically challenging.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH!!!

This book is great for women that are SERIOUS about their desire to grow spiritually. It's not a "bible study" book per se. But the idea is for you to take the biblical principals provided in this book, and apply them to your daily living. It is encouraged that you do go over each lesson once a month for 12 months or once a week for 12 weeks. The objective is to bring you to a point where you can walk in VICTORY no matter what situations may arise. AND we are commissioned to be disciples and disciple leaders. So, once you go through the lessons, it would be great if you could take what has been poured into you, and pour into someone else's life. IF EVERYONE DISCIPLES ONE, THEN EVERYONE WILL BE DISCIPLED!!!

This book is fantastic for discipleship!

I ordered this book for one-on-one discipleship and the lessons it contains and the format is great. You can do a lesson all in one sitting or break it up just as easily, and i love the way you do the work by subject rather than all at once. This book has just the right depth to reach a wide range of spiritual maturities.
