About the Author
Dzigar Kongtrül grew up in a monastic environment and received extensive training in all aspects of Buddhist doctrine. In 1989, he moved to the United States with his family and in 1990, he began a five-year tenure as a professor of Buddhist philosophy at Naropa University. He also founded Mangala Shri Bhuti, his own teaching organization, during this period. He has established a mountain retreat center, Longchen Jigme Samten Ling, in southern Colorado. When not guiding students in long-term retreats and not in retreat himself, Rinpoche travels widely throughout the world teaching and furthering his own education.

A Stellar First Book!!!

Whether you are a practicing Buddhist, Christian, or other, Dzigar Kongtrul's book, It's Up to You is a gem that will inspire your heart and your intention for living your life. It is apparent that Dzigar Kongtruls' intention in this book is to encourage us to take advantage of the precious opportunity we have to make a difference for ourselves and others.

In It's Up to You, Dzigar Kongtrul emphasizes that every being has the potential to be free from suffering and that it is up to us to recognize this and take the necessary steps to get there. Dzigar Kongtrul expresses that self-reflection is the key to obtaining the peace we all strive for. In It's Up To You, he explains that self-reflection is not always a comfortable process and emphasizes that it must be done with care and compassion. He suggests that having a non judgmental stance is imperative and that self-reflection requires both observation and description without bias. He outlines some of the steps he feels are crucial to this process.

I have read this book more than once and will continue to benefit from its teachings for the rest of my life. Thank you, Dzigar Kongtrul for putting these teachings on paper.

Extremely insightful

This is a must read book for any serious practitioner on any spiritual path. Dzigar Kongtrul has a very direct and clear way of exposing our most subtle unseen habits -- the parts which we have so much trouble acknowledging to ourselves (not to mention anyone else). This was such a helpful book for me personally, I can't praise it highly enough. It is a great buy for anyone interested in reflecting more deeply on his/her own mind and getting a handle on how to transform him/herself.

The Essence of Buddhist Practice

Of the several books I have read on Buddhism this is one of the best. In a very clear and simple, yet profound manner, Dzigar Kongtrul shares his wisdom illuminating some very complex principles of the practice of dharma. I have gained a great deal studying this book and reflecting upon my own conceptions on the dharma as well as my thinking on the ego, suffering and the purpose and place for self reflection in my own life. I highly recommend this text for anyone seeking more insight into themselves, who seek the path or are thrown onto the path of sometimes brutal and honest self reflection. The message, so clearly explained here, is that through our suffering and challenges we have the greatest opportunity to learn, to become liberated, to transform and to grow. That it is this task- to relect on the self, to increase our compassion and wisdom that leads us toward our own enlighenment.

As such, this book provides a much-needed revision of many misconceptions about the early history of sport in Britain.

About the Author
Bandu N. Pamadi is a senior aerospace engineer at NASA Langley Research Center. He was a German academic exchange fellow at the University of Stuttgart from 1973-1975 and an NRC-NASA Research Associate at NASA Langley from 1981-1983. Before returning to NASA Langley in 1986, he was a professor of aeronautical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He holds degrees from Karnatak University, the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

Not one of my favorites...

I am huge Gerri Hill fan and have read most of her books. This one though, falls a little short in my opinion. The story revolves around two charcters, Jo and Kelly, both in their mid-30s and both professors at a college. Jo has been cheated on and left by her long time lover and refuses to let anyone get close to her. Kelly is an athlete, writer, who has a reputation of being a player. Easy markings for typical yet enjoyable story.

The reason I didn't love this was that Jo got on my nerves with her insecurity and her possesiveness. And Kelly, well she just kept taking the beatings. I get it, love and wanting and all that but really...it was little more that I think as a reader I could take. And then there was the lack of display of the said reputation of Kelly. I would have liked to see more happen as in Jo going out on a date, something more with Deb perhaps. I don't really know, I just know something was missing to really tie the story of the two characters together.

I didn't hate the book...but it's not one of my favorites and probably not one that I read again in the future any time.

Love wins!

This is my first time reading a book by this author. I enjoyed it immensely. One of the characters, Jo, had insecurity and trust issues. After a previous bad relationship that is understandable. She found someone who was patient enough to hang in there with her and help her overcome those issues. Sometimes, that happens in real life. That would be wonderful if everyone was blessed like that. A very good read! I can't wait to read other works by this author.

We sleep in the bed we make for ourselves

This book is really two great stories in one.

The first story is the rift that develops between best friends Denise and Jody. Denise is distraught and seeks comfort with Jody because her daughter, Ellen, admits to being a lesbian. Denise asks the womanizing Jody to help guide Ellen and help her meet people in the hometown to which she has recently returned. Jody reluctantly agrees, and soon finds Ellen admitting a timeless crush on the woman 19 years her senior. Denise is not happy for a myriad of reasons and conspires with Ellen's psycho ex-girlfriend to interfere.

The second story is about how, even though their lives are filled with contention, the three main characters come together to battle Ellen's very sudden and potentially deadly bout with illness.

This was a great story with a three-dimensional supporting cast. The main characters were well developed and lovable. The only reason I rated it 4 stars is the age difference between Jody and Ellen -- I just can't relate to that at all.

Highly recommended and enjoyable read.

Amazing Story

This book grabs you and takes you into the story with the characters. Denise and Jody are best friends who have everything. Denise has a daughter Ellen who is now all grown up and returns home, only after admitting she was a lesbian. Jody is shocked when she sees Ellen again because the brat kid she once knew was now a very beautiful and sexy woman. Ellen pursues Jody and they end up falling for each other, but their relationship could cause Jody to loose Denise's friendship. Jody and Ellen's relationship later is tested when Ellen becomes it.

This was an amazing love story and one of the best I've read to date. I couldn't put it down - I needed to know how the story ended.

Would highly recommend to anyone - it's just a wonderful book.

Sweetheart of Romance

I was surprised to see that Survival of Love was not ranked in the top ten. So I just had to submit my thoughts so others would not miss out on this great read. I've always liked the books by Ms. Jones, but this one stands out! Her characters are real. I found myself thinking about them, wondering how things were going to turn out. The story of Ellen and Jody is about true love. As I read it, I experienced the full range of emotions. It made me laugh. It made me cry and made me laugh again. But mostly it made me glad to have read this book. Survival of Love is sure to become a romance classic and put Ms. Jones on the map as the "Sweetheart of Romance."

I LOVE this book and the first one

I read this book a while ago, but never got a review posted because I'm disorganized. I LOVE this book and the first one, KILL ME. Owens is a talented writer, and the entire package - cover, editing, writing - is perfect. I recommend all of her books for lovers of the supernatural.

I really enjoyed the second book in this series. I am finding myself looking forward to more with each page read. I can't wait for the next book to come out. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to mix things up and be able to get your vampire fix in a new and exciting way. It gives us a glimpse into the author's mind.I also enjoyed the characters and sense of humour mixed in.

Much more than a sales brochure

The problem with some car books is that they are little more than expanded sales brochures. This one is much more. It has interviews with the engineers and Ford executives involved in creating this car, the problems they faced, and the market conditions. This book makes clear the thinking and rationale that went into the decisions designing this car. The book gives a brief history of the Mustang line, but that is not its main purpose. I was glad to see that it spends many more pages on the development of the 2015 Mustang; I already have several books on the history of the Mustang. There are also plenty of images showing some of the design ideas along the way as the car slowly took shape, and there are many interesting accounts about this process, including the decisions to build a right hand drive model for foreign markets, whether or not to have the V-6 return, and developing independent rear suspension across the line as standard equipment. There is much, much more in this book, but I won't spoil those surprises.

Wish it was even more focused on the '15

I was expecting a book focused on engineering details of the 2015 Mustang. This book includes too much overarching Mustang history and individual perspectives on Mustang, past and present - in my opinion. I wanted more of a book full of Dave Pericak, Kemal Curic and 2015 details, exploded views etc.

I am proud to present Le Cordon Bleu's Pâtisserie and Baking Foundations--the companion book to Le Cordon Bleu's Cuisine Foundations. This book is intended to provide a useful reference as you explore the world of pâtisserie and also to serve you well as you embark on your own journey, both personally and professionally. At first glance you might think that this is just "another culinary textbook," but on closer examination you will realize that the focus is on technique. This is particularly important in French pâtisserie, where mastering the basic techniques and recipes gives you the elements necessary to make almost any pastry, including ones to be created by you!

Provided herein are visual step-by-step photographs to demonstrate most of these basic techniques. We took our cue from the many students and graduates around the world who were looking for a single reference that would explain and show the basic techniques used in French pâtisserie and baking--techniques that have existed and been respected for more than three centuries. With human ingenuity came progress in the kitchen, but the techniques have remained practically unchanged. Pastry chefs over the centuries have gone from cooking in ashes to cooking in wood-burning stoves then onto induction ovens and the "anti-griddle." These advancements have certainly influenced the evolution of pâtisserie, but the tried-and-true recipes have not only endured but improved.

The Le Cordon Bleu Foundations books were written to reset the counter and refresh everyone's history and knowledge of these techniques. Here you will find recipes that have been created throughout the history of French pâtisserie and that best exemplify the application of the classic techniques. Also, because pâtisserie has become international there are also recipes for pastries and breads from other cultures that have become as familiar to many as a croissant or chocolate éclair. Potentially looks great, but hire a new editor....

I would guess that the book is a fantastic comprehensive volume for both the novice and experienced baker. But...for its price, I would expect no mistakes. In looking at the three recipes previewed, I see, for the Biscuit Joconde, that vanilla is mentioned in the instructions, but not in the ingredient list. This might be frustrating for many.

This is an outstanding book on the foundation of Patisserie and Baking. It will give the non chef an idea on how to bake like one. And help the chef step up their game.
